Description

Laymen: Lorry-sized Alien monstrosity that tramples everything in its path and sprays acid over anything that puts up a fight.

Nerds: Scratch-built gargantuan Tyranid for Warhammer 40,000. Built with Milliput over a toy Ankylosaurus, with a few bits and pieces from Games Workshop kits (specifically: the crashed ship, the humans, the creature's tongue, teeth, gun and arms).

Painted with Citadel paints, and finished with Humbrol Gloss, Satin and Matt varnishes.

After purchasing a large Tyranid model from Forge World, I decided to up my game with sculpting and aim way higher than I have in the past. I'm very happy with the result, though I could have planned the anatomy of the creature a little better (its hips and ribcage seriously lack symmetry; good thing they're well concealed, eh?). Still, options are somewhat constrained when you're building on top of another model. I'm going to do some lesser conversions of existing kits and paint my other large semi-scratchbuild before getting to work on a far larger project, which will be built entirely from scratch.

As a gaming piece, this counts as a Scythed Heirodule; this means it's especially good at trampling infantry, crushing tanks, fighting other large models and can kill large numbers of light or medium infantry with a short-ranged acid spray.

I would be happy to discuss having my work featured in publications or websites, send me an email if you are interested in high resolution images.
